A brief history of the Chicago & North Western Iowa Division mainline, now part of the Overland Route:

06/26/21

This heavily built through truss bridge sits near the intersection of County G37, I-680 and I-29.

It was built in 1936 to cross Pigeon Creek, likely replacing a smaller truss bridge.
The current bridge at this location is nothing short of massive. It features a 6 panel, riveted Subdivided Warren Through Truss.
The Subdivided Warren Through Truss was a favorite of some railroads during the 20s and 30s, due to its heavy and easy to build nature.
The bridge appears to be in good condition. It sits on concrete abutments.
It can be accessed from walking along the irrigation channel from 152nd Street.

The author has ranked this bridge as moderately significant, due to the truss design.
